Planning and Delivery At Fleckney C of E Primary School, science is taught weekly. Teachers check what the children already know by carrying out pre-teaching assessment activities so that they can revisit key concepts if necessary and build on prior knowledge. EYFS Science is taught through the Knowledge and Understanding of the World aspect of the framework. Science skills are taught through the study of harvests, light and dark, hot and cold places, healthy eating, new life, growing and planting, and mini beasts. KS1 and KS2 Science is taught by following the National Curriculum programmes of study: plants; animals, including humans; living things and their habitats; seasonal changes; evolution and inheritance; materials; rocks; states of matter; sound; electricity; Earth and space; light; forces; electricity; and working scientifically (which is taught through the other areas). We have a large bank of both online and physical resources to ensure children have access to high-quality, practical learning. Impact The successful approach to the teaching of science at Fleckney C of E Primary School will result in a fun, engaging, high-quality science education that provides the foundations for understanding the world. Assessment at Fleckney C of E Primary School is teacher-based. It is carried out continually using assessment for learning strategies including questioning, observations, and marking. Teachers also make use of ‘O-Track’ (an online resource) for formative and summative assessment purposes. |
